Westfield Wanderers 1
Redmoor Boys 1

The new season opened with a game against local opposition and the crowd were rewarded to an entertaining game of football. This was a new experience for the team being 9 a side, a bigger pitch and goals and offsides. The game started at a good pace with both teams trying to gain the upper hand. Some solid defending from Westfield kept Redmoor at bay while the boys created a couple of chances themselves but they were proving difficult to come by for both teams.

The deadlock was broken when Bradley Corbett headed home from a corner which was delivered right into the middle of the penalty area. The first half ended with the home team holding the advantage. The second half began in much the same way but then a flurry of activity involving a disallowed goal for Redmoor following a push, a penalty save from Tom Brookes in the Westfield goal and then a finelyy taken equaliser from Redmoor.

The game was finely balanced and a further goal for Westfield was ruled offside and then a shot from James hit the post for Westfield.

An entertaining game with an excellent team performance from the home team gets their season underway

Westfield Wanderers 2
Barwell Tigers 2

Firstly a mention for Paul Smith and Mark Ryan for some sterling work is getting as much of the pitch cut prior to the game so that the boys wouldn't get lost in the long grass

A fine sunny morning greeted everybody and the first half got underway and Barwell were camped close to Westfields goal for the opening minutes before the home team started to make headway themselves. Openings were hard to come by as both teams played well and the midfield and defensive units worked hard on both sides. The game was end to end but the first half ended goalless. In the second half both sides continued to play some neat football while trying to carve an opening. The deadlock was broken from a corner for Westfield when the ball was crossed in and Ryan Smith scored with a unique movement - off the back of his head.

Barwell came back strongly and equalised within a few minutes with their own headed goal and then a brief hesitation in the Westfield defence let Barwell take the lead with a well taken goal. Time was ticking along and so Westfield again pushed forwards and Bradley Corbett then equalised for the home team following a pass out from which he had only one thing on his mind.

Another good game of football from 2 evenly matched teams where the whole team could be congratulated on their effort and performance

Westfield Wanderers 6
Medbourne Juniors 1

Westfield hosted Medbourne Juniors in the 2nd round of the County Cup with a dry morning greeting the teams. Westfield got off to the best possible start with Ryan Smith scoring from a free kick after a few minutes. Both teams battled hard in the midfield with Westfield gaining the upper hand and another 2 goals from Bradley Corbett and Charlie Bennett helped the home side to build a cushion. Good pressure from Bradley on the Medbourne goalkeeper resulted in a 4-0 halftime lead.
The second half started with Westfield continuing to push forward and 2 more goals from Charlie and Daniel Hendry made the game safe.
Medbourne continued to battle and were rewarded with a goal from a well struck shot near the end.
Another good team performance from the boys means they are unbeaten in all competitions so far this season

Gilmorton Juniors 3
Westfield Wanderers 3

Westfield visited Gilmorton at the weekend and were treated to a hard game with honours even at the end of the day. Westfield started brightly with Charlie Bennett opening the scoring for the visitors but a ball split open Westfields defence and Gilmorton tucked it away. The game continued and Gilmorton took the lead with a fine free kick which cleared the defensive wall and flew in. Westfield equalised through Ryan Smith before the break.
The second half started with Charlie getting his second in the opening minutes and a goal mouth scramble following a corner brought the game to 3-3 which is how the game finished.

Sunday 2nd January 2011
Westfield Wanderers 4
Harborough Town Juniors 2

After the enforced december break both teams turned up to resolve this round of the county cup and the game started brightly for Westfield with a few chances just not being put away
The visitors then took the lead with a fine shot from the edge of the box that curled away from the keeper but this was really against the run of play. Westfield continued to press and finally equalised through Sam Lee. Bradly Corbett managed to add a second before the break as Westfield continued to make chances.
In the second half both teams continued to play good football and everyone was being made to work hard to create any chances but Charlie Bennet tucked away a third before Harborough grabbed one back with about 10 minutes to go
Trying to avoid a nail-biting finish, Ryan Smith grabbed a fourth goal for the team to secure the win for the home team
A great team performance now sees the boys in the quarter finals
Man of the Match : Sam Lee
